Doesn't Your Heart Deserve The Best?

Pioneers In Cardiac Care

Helping Hearts With A History of Firsts.

When it comes to your heart, think of us first. After all, we pioneered cardiac care in the region and residents have benefited from all the “firsts” that St. Helena Hospital brought to the North Bay/North Coast area.

The Heart & Vascular Center was the first to:
  • Perform coronary angiograms
  • Perform coronary angioplasties
  • Perform coronary bypass surgery
  • Offer minimally invasive cardiac bypass surgery

State of the Art Treatment
We now perform 90% of Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) cases using a safe “off-pump” approach, which means your heart does not have to be stopped during surgery. And we perform bypass surgeries using the HEARTSTRING Proximal Seal System, which means the aorta does not have to be clamped off during surgery. These newest state-of-the-art surgical methods help minimize the risk of stroke and neurological damage during surgery.

We always put the your safety first.

Continuing to be a Pioneer …

We’re not content to rest on past accomplishments. Our quest for excellence in cardiac treatment is an ongoing passion for the doctors and specialists who serve you.

To that end, The Heart & Vascular Center at St. Helena Hospital was recently named a demonstration site for an exciting new cardiac technology:

Toshiba’s 64-slice CT scanner technology, called the
Aquilion CFX Series Volumetric Cardiac CT

Non-invasive tools offer a faster, clearer picture of the heart – essential for early detection and treatment. The Aquilion CFX series is a breakthrough that makes noninvasive CT angiography (CTA) a clinical reality. And St. Helena’s Heart & Vascular Center is the area’s only hospital to offer it.

As part of our commitment to advanced technology, we have also recently acquired a nuclear medicine camera that helps in assessment of cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, we consistently participate in voluntary national and state quality initiatives such as the Society for Thoracic Surgery National Database, JACHO’s Core Measures Project and CMS’s Pilot Project to look at AMI and Heart Failure. We are also participating in the California Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Outcomes Reporting Project. We are confident about our quality, and eager to help set standards of excellence for the healthcare industry.

The Highest-Rated Care Provider in Eight Separate Categories.

In 2004, former patients who took the California Hospital Experience Survey gave St. Helena Hospital the highest-possible rating in all eight categories of overall hospital patient-care performance:

• Respect for patient preferences
• Coordination of care
• Information and education
• Physical comfort
• Emotional support
• Involvement of family and friends
• Safe medical practices and
• Transition to home

St. Helena also received the highest rating in these two additional categories:

• Rating of hospital
• Would recommend hospital

In everything we do, we strive not only for excellent performance, but also for patient satisfaction. So you will not only receive the finest in cardiovascular care … but also a warm, friendly experience while you’re with us. We aren’t resting on our laurels. We’re looking to enhance them.
